It has taken us awhile, but we are on the blogging network. To all of our friends and supporters, thanks for being patient. We have had a few pitfalls and detours, but that is what makes life in “Clayton Place” sooooo interesting! What is our blog about??? Well, all we can say is much like its counterpart, “Peyton Place”, Clayton Place has its own share of secrets, and the inhabitants believe they are covered up and hidden, with no one knowing the details……WRONG!!!!! Most of what we will cover in our blog are based on true and actual events. Some names, characterizations, gender, sexual orientation, hair color, plastic surgeries, gastro-intestinal by-passes, hair plugs and/or extensions, weight, height and eye color, have been changed to protect the guilty. If any person feels as if they are the target of our discussions, just remember as our friend and mentor Hollis Gillespie says, “If someone is a volcanic asshole and we just happened to notice, it isn’t our fault for pointing it out!”
We live in a very unique small southern town where everyone knows everyone. If you grew up in Clayton Place, like we did, you couldn’t wait to get the hell out of here because of the talk, talk, talk and the people who move to Clayton Place can’t wait to get here for the same reasons. Everyone who moves here always state “there is no place like Clayton”.
We are Lysa Gillette and Irene Bynum and we are the “Clayton Place Girls”. We have both lived in other places and migrated back here within the last several years. We have known each other for at least 40 years (God we are giving away our ages!) and met each other through our fathers who were both old school attorneys. Although we have led very different lives, we have come back together through our mutual interest in writing.
Lysa encouraged our attendance at a writing seminar with Hollis Gillespie. Hollis has been a tremendous inspiration to us and has seen something unique in our stories that are true and actually have taken place as we tell them. We both have felt a need to help or empower others, especially women. In getting to know each other again we have realized that one or the other of us has gone through most of all life’s challenges and yet we are still here to talk about them. Now here is our BIG secret … in life and especially during trying times, you just have to get up each morning , put one foot in front of the other and make the best of it and above all else LAUGH…. and laugh a lot . So, there were times in our lives when we had nothing to laugh about and nobody there to remind us to laugh, and those were the times we could not get out of bed in the mornings.
With that in mind we hope we can tell you lots of interesting stories that have happened to us and we feel compelled to share with you, so tune in regularly and hang on for a wild ride and remember fact is stranger and funnier than any fiction! And the greatest gift you can give yourself is LAUGHTER!!!
